Είναι ένα πρόγραμμα που τρέχει σε έναν υπολογιστή και τον μετατρέπει σε server στο διαδίκτυο. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι αν εσύ έχεις εγκαταστήσει τον Apache στον υπολογιστή σου και επιχειρήσει κάποιος να συνδεθεί σε σένα μέσω http τότε ο apache θα του απαντήσει αυτόματα.Μάλιστα πολλά από τα πιο διάσημα sites του κόσμου χρησιμοποιούν τον apache στους υπολογιστές τους.
Για να λειτουργήσει πρακτικά ο apache και να τον τρέξεις στο σπίτι σου πρέπει να έχεις κάνει κάποιες ρυθμίσεις. Πρέπει να έχεις εξαιρέσει το πρόγραμμα από τον firewall (αν τρέχεις windows) και να έχεις ρυθμίσει το router σου ώστε όταν δέχεται αίτηση σύνδεσης στην θύρα 80 (που χρησιμοποιείται για σύνδεση http) αν την προωθεί στον υπολογιστή σου. Και φυσικά πρέπει να έχεις ανοιχτό τον υπολογιστή με το πρόγραμμα να τρέχει.

Είναι απαραίτητο να υπάρχει εγκατεστημένο σε ενα απλο pc που δεν προρρίζεται για server? Είναι εγκατεστημένος στο laptop μου, χωρις να το έχω εγκαταστήσει εγώ και απ οτι βλέπω χρησιμοποιεί και μεγάλο ποσοστό πόρων…
Επίσης δεν μπορω να το απεγκαταστήσω.
