Με το πέρασμα χιλιάδων ετών, στα σημεία απ’ όπου πέφτουν οι σταγόνες σχηματίζονται στήλες ασβεστίου που κρέμονται από την οροφή. Οι στήλες αυτές ονομάζονται σταλακτίτες, ενώ αυτές που ορθώνονται από τα σημείο του δαπέδου του σπηλαίου όπου πέφτει το νερό ονομάζονται σταλαγμίτες.
