Shareware είναι τα προγράμματα τα οποία μπορείς να δοκιμάσεις δωρεάν (trial περίοδος – θα πρέπει να το έχεις ακούσει). Για να αποκτήσεις ένα αντίγραφό τους νόμιμα θα πρέπει να τα αγοράσεις. Δεν σημαίνει όμως ότι είσαι αναγκασμένος να το κάνεις βέβαια.
Τι διαφορά έχουν όμως από τα freeware δεν γνωρίζω. Υπάρχουν βέβαια και τα open-source προγράμματα τα οποία διανέμεις, χρησιμοποιείς και επεξεργάζεσαι τον κώδικά τους π.χ. , μένοντας πάντα νόμιμος.
