Ο όρος EPG προέρχεται από τα αρχικά των λέξεων Electronic Program Guide που σημαίνει Οδηγός Ηλεκτρονικού Προγράμματος. Ουσιαστικά πρόκειται για την προβολή του προγράμματος σε ηλεκτρονική μορφή μέσω μενού που εμφανίζεται στην οθόνη της τηλεόρασης. Προβάλει δε όλες τις απαραίτητες πληροφορίες σχετικά με την εκάστοτε εκπομπή, π.χ. αν πρόκειται να δείξει κάποια ταινία, προβάλει την περίληψη της υπόθεσης, τον σκηνοθετη, τη διάρκεια της κι ότου κάθε εξής.
